PERFORMANCE and GROWTH

Giusi is passionate about advocating mental health and mental strength skillsets. Impassioned also about improving public mental health awareness and destigmatising mental illness, she endorses that athletes and high performers should place mental strength training as part of their holistic approach to athlete and personal development and their general health.

With over 30 years in practice, Giusi has worked with Olympians, AFL and AFLW footballers, tennis professionals and performance artists to name a few.  In addition to treating individual patients, Giusi is actively engaged in schools, public presentations, discussion panels and workplace HR and communication training across a variety of settings including local government, organisational and corporate.  An ultimate goal is to create change and awareness at a universal level so that mental health support and evidence-based performance interventions are seamlessly integrated into the lives of athletes and sporting organisations.

TREATMENT PHILOSOPHY

KINTSUGI

In an age that worships youth, perfection and the new, the art of kintsugi retains a particular wisdom – as applicable to our own lives as it is to a broken tea cup. The care and love expended on the shattered pots should lend us the confidence to respect what is damaged and scarred, vulnerable and imperfect – starting with ourselves and those around us.

The Kintsugi philosophy suggests many things. Firstly, we shouldn’t throw away broken objects. When an object breaks, it doesn’t mean that it is no more useful. It’s breakages can become valuable. We should try to repair things because sometimes in doing so we obtain more valuable objects. This is the essence of resilience. Each of us should look for a way to cope with traumatic events in a positive way, learn from negative experiences, take the best from them and convince ourselves that exactly these experiences make each person or relationship unique, precious and thus more valuable.
